Bach and St. Thomas Church

A must for all music lovers

St. Thomas and St. Nicholas are the main churches in the centre of Leipzig.

The St. Thomas church is a centre of music as well. Here the famous Thomanerchor sings three times a week. Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) served as director of the choir from 1723 to 1750. In 1723 Bach was appointed Cantor of Thomasschule, adjacent to the Thomaskirche (St. Thomas Lutheran Church) in Leipzig, and Director of Music in the principal churches in the town.

A sweet gift will wait for you at the end - the famous 'Bachtaler' - a delicious confectioner's masterpiece.
