Tour 1: 'From an open-cast mining district to a nature reserve'

See Europe's greatest change of countryside in the former open-cast mining district south of Leipzig.

On a guided tour through the former open-cast mining district you will get much information and a clear insight into the processes involved. For everybody participating it is an impressive and unforgettable experience.

Price per person 27,50 €, for single guests and smaller groups, including a miner's picnic and entrance and booking fees. For larger groups price on request.

Tour 2: Ferropolis - Town of Iron - and the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm

Ferropolis

Five gigantic open-cast mining machines are the main attraction of Ferropolis in the former mining-area of Gulpa-Nord. They are a symbol of the 150 year old tradition of brown coal mining in the middle of Germany.

At the same time Ferropolis should be a mark for the revival of a new understanding of human and nature in this area.

The idea for this place was born in 1991 at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Placing the giant machines at Ferropolis instead of dismantling them was the point of beginning for a fascinating new idea of use.

Today Ferropolis is a multi-purpose arena for approx. 25,000 people using the arena for pop or rock concerts, festivals or opera.

The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm

After visiting Ferropolis we will visit the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm (also called English Grounds of Wörlitz). Prince Franz von Anhalt  combined Philosophy, Architecture, Agriculture and Garden Design to an excellent work of art in the 18th century.

Wörlitz is nowadays listed as world culural heritage and offers its visitors with the palace and the garden unexpected sights and beloved views.
